More than 100 kilometers South of Iloilo lies the small Barrio of Carawisan in San Remegio Antique. From Molo, Iloilo, you have to pass through the municipalities of Oton, Tigbuan, San Joaquin and through the towns of Antique, starting from Hamtic. Along the way were series of rough roads, rocky mountains, hills, beautiful sceneries to watch yet about to release its wrath. The mountains and hills are about to reveal a clear and present danger due to the fallen rocks caused by erosion and by the irresponsibility of some of our "kasimanwas". The rough roads that look like been there for years look the same. No wonder why only few tourists would take the risk of travelling in these places to spend their summer. Generally, I have to say we have blame some of this things to our government. Going back to once in a lifetime experience that we had in Carawisan, it took us two hours to reach that beautiful place by a motorcycle ride. It was almost dark already when we arrive there, and crossing the river before you can reach the place was not easy. We have to lift our motorcycles into a bamboo raft because of the flood. And thanks to Toto Buki who pulled the raft for us, I know our fifty bucks was not enough for his efforts. So, it was really a tiring trip, the fatigue was there for a fact that we do not have enough sleep during that day. We were just there to celebrate the graduation party of Toto Jumil, our good boardmate in Molo. And since we're all males, we were there for one more reason-a drinking session. One thing you would really admire when you arrive in that place is the hospitality of the people.Toto Jumil's parents were very accommodating. We were treated like family members. They provided us with foods, "pulutan", brandys, whiskeys, almost everything that we wanted. And before getting to sleep, we left 6 empty long neck bottles of Emperador light on the tables.
We woke up the next day and just like the other night, started our day with a delicious breakfast. Estopado, valenciana, adobo, nilagang baboy were all that we had on the table. After an hour of rest, we went out for a basketball game against some of the teen age residents, and a couple more hours of rest before proceeding to the part of the mountain where the waterfalls lies.Along our ways were no different sights. Rice fields that have not been watered for a long time, carabaos and cows and burnt trees that were evidence of "kaingin system" which has long been the source of livelihood of the residents.
At the back of the picture above is mountain of Carawisan. It may look beautiful from afar, but when you're going to take a closer look at it, you will notice that even this mountain would not last that long anymore because of lack of trees that would keep the soil. Due to man's irresponsibility, this mountain has been losing slowly losing its beauty. The big trees on the side of it are no longer visible. Sooner, this mountain will turn into another planes, bringing hazards into hundreds of residents around it.
The picture below shows the foot of the mountain, where there are still several trees standing. This is the path going to the waterfalls.
Below is the lower part of the waterfalls, the deepest part of the falls lies in this portion. This is the deepest yet the most beautiful part of the waterfalls.
